Plain English, no legalese. Here's exactly what happens with your data on this site.
What I collect
Le French Please is a small site run by a single teacher, Aurélien Fort. I collect the minimum necessary to run the site and, if you choose, to send you French learning content.
- Your email address, but only if you voluntarily subscribe to the newsletter or sign up for a lesson.
- Your French level (A1-C1), if you complete the free placement quiz, so I can send you content adapted to your level.
- Nothing else. No name, no location, no browsing history, no behavior tracking.
Local storage (the "cookies" question)
This site uses localStorage, a small bit of your browser's memory, to remember things like:
- Whether you've already dismissed the newsletter bar (so we don't show it again for 14 days).
- Whether you've completed an exercise on the training page.
- Your email, if you subscribed, so we don't re-prompt you.
This data stays on your device, it's never sent to a server. You can clear it anytime from your browser settings. Technically, this is not a cookie in the legal sense; it's similar in spirit but stored differently.
Third parties I use
A few external services are involved when you interact with the site:
- MailerLite, If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email is stored there to send you the emails. Their privacy policy.
- Cloudflare, Hosts the site and its images. They see standard server logs (IP addresses) but I don't read them. Their privacy policy.
- Calendly, If you book a discovery call, scheduling is done through Calendly. Their privacy policy.
I do NOT use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, advertising trackers, or any behavior profiling tools. You are not being followed around the internet because of this site.
Your rights (GDPR)
Under European law, you have the right to:
- Access the data I hold about you (which is essentially just your email and level if you subscribed).
- Correct or delete that data, just ask.
- Unsubscribe at any time, every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
- Object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time.
How long I keep your data
Your email stays in MailerLite as long as you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it's removed from active lists within 30 days. I don't keep backups of old subscriber data once you've unsubscribed.
